What Are Good Backtesting Filters?

A good sdql filter is something like: 'and 7<=total<=9' totals 7 and 9 in MLB are the two most common (relatively frequent).   So we talk about logic in queries here a lot now. What does filtering out totals outside of that high frequency range mean?   It means that we're going to focus on equilibrium. I've gone on about this in heavier detail in my own writings (journals, blog posts, forum discussions)   I project explicit outcomes of North American sports games using proprietary modeling systems. Some may argue that they are worthless. You can't make a stats model that consistently predicts 55%+ ATS year in ... More

Patriots Looking at Yeremiah Bell in an Effort to Get Back to the Super Bowl

As the Patriots look to retool in an effort to get back to the Super Bowl, they could seek some extra secondary help. And while the Pats could do so via the draft, they have expressed interest in free agent safety Yeremiah Bell, according to the Sun Sentinel. Bell, who has played his entire eight-year career with Miami, was released earlier this offseason to create $4.3 million in salary cap relief for the Dolphins. Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that the two sides are in talks which could land Smith in Miami next season. Klis reports that the deal is worth in the neighborhood of $8 million dollars per season, the same as the deal reported that the 49ers offered Smith prior to the start of free agency. Miami had been one of the teams interes... More

Lingerie Football News

What would the Lingerie Football League be without Lingerie? I guess it would just be the Football League, but that might get confusing - you know with the National Football League already being kind of a big deal and all. The LFL has been increasing in popularity lately, with 12 teams in the United States, six in Canada, and four more set to join in Australia next year. My gut tells me the skimpy outfits are one of the main reasons the league has been so well-received, but Liz Gorman ... More

Teams To Fade as Expensive Road Favorites In 2012

Let's say you have a team that made the public money in an odd spot in MLB one season. It is very possible that this same team losing you money in the same spot next season isn't just natural or random. This may be a bookmaker exploit of the public. Using SDQL you can see that dollars regress each year.  Let's look at an example: A Breakdown of MLB Teams as Expensive (-150 or more) Road Dogs In 2010: SDQL Text: "team and season=2010 and site=away and line<=-150" TEAM $ON W-L (marg, % win) Reds    300    ...
